Women who are now walking on a parallel track with men in our society, getting excellence in every arena as compared to men, still are not accepted by Indian parents. It’s really heart breaking to accept this sad truth of our literate stupid society.
Here are the most common offbeat reasons why Indians always desire for a son.
1. Disturbing Statistics
According to UNICEF, about 7000 fewer girls than anticipated are born each day in India. According to British Medical Journal about 500,000 female foetuses are being destroyed every year. 2. Compulsion with Male Child
The enthusiasm to have at least one male child creates chaotic situation and keep making babies in a hope of getting a male child as if it’s only way to survive in this world. The more surprising study by Lancet medical journal is the larger rate of abortion is more evident in rich and educated families.
3. Three cruel words “It’s a girl”
In the society, where the value of a birth of baby boy is more than baby girl, the most horrifying fact that an increasing number of Indian families which girl child, abort the successive pregnancies when the ultrasound tests show that the baby is also a female.

6. Female needs safeguard
The increased rates of rape cases, molestation cases, child trafficking, it’s believed by Indians that girls need safeguard and protection. A number of families which are leading lives below the poverty line, have to leave their children home and go far for work. They are not more likely taking responsibility of a girl’s safety in this ever rising risk society as they are considered as a burden.
7. Female belongs to someone else
When girl’s get married they have to live with new in-laws family which ultimately means sons are the one who will be taking care of parents. This is a consistent emotional belief which is accepted by every Indian and hence, the girls are made aware of this truth right from their birth.
8. Son for Heaven
It’s a very old and deep rooted perception in our society that only a son can do the last rites as the soul will attain liberation. In many regions of India, girls are not even allowed to go to the cremation ground. It’s like a taboo. If son is not available, any male related to the deceased person can do the ritual but not daughter or girl.
9. Female brings dishonour to family
If any family has a girl child, then there are more possibilities of bringing dishonour or disgrace to the family by that girl. As it is a mindset of our society that boys can get away by anyway doing anything wrong, but if anything wrong happens, a girl is the only one to be blamed.
10. Investment with no returns
It’s all about economics. Well, if a male child gets educated and earns then naturally it belongs to him and his parents. He gets married and gets dowry too. But, if a girl child is being educated, and is working, and after getting married her salary belongs to her in-laws. Hence, girl’s education is a total waste.
11. Dowry factor
The most powerful factor. When a girl gets married, her parents have to pay a heavy dowry in form of cash to the groom’s family, which is a real heavy burden for poor families and they start saving money right from her birth. Many poor families to get rid of this troublesome scenario abort their girl child.
12. When girl’s marriage fails
When a girl’s marriage faces some troubles or fails leaving no choice, the girl has to walk away from the marriage relation, which is a veto act not accepted by our society leading to the humiliation and disrespect of girl’s family.
13. Male is a carrier of family origin
A male child is considered as the carrier of family origin and status, whereas girls get married and become part of her in-laws family being incapable of carrying the family tradition.
Now this is the horrible and an atrocious circle in which every girl child and woman is trapped. The bias and chauvinism against women are so deeply rooted in the shade of cultural fabric, that only a strong combined effort by old, young, rich and poor would be able to split and break it once and forever.
