Transfer Your Wow Classic Character for Free!

Blizzard announced earlier this week that they would be allowing some players to transfer their character from highly populated servers to less populated ones. As part of their efforts to reduce the queue times which were insane when World of Warcraft Classic released.

To remedy the long queue time situation, Blizzard is allowing some players to transfer their accounts. The Free Character Move service has now launched for the US and EU meaning that players can move their characters to less populated servers to reduce their wait times. There are three requirements however.

1. The character cannot be a guild leader
2. They cannot have an active listing on the auction house
3. The inbox needs to be empty for that character

It will be possible to move characters throughout the weekend but Blizzard has already warned that busy times could mean it takes several hours to transfer that character. Also, Blizzard has mentioned that players might need to chance their characters name after the move and this will be a permanent change which cannot be reversed. Blizzard Customer Support cannot monitor or modify a Free Character Move so you need to make sure that you definitely want the server change.

The server change may take a few hours to complete during peak times and when the destination realm is full, the service will be closed. So there is a limited number of players who can move realms. If you are in a group and all want to move, you should do so immediately to avoid someone being left behind.

A selected number of realms are able to move this weekend and there is a small number of destination realms also. Those on the most populated realms will be able to move this weekend for as long as the service is still active and as long as the realms are not totally full.

For those on a PvP realm, you cannot move a character to another PvP realm if you already have a character there which belongs to the opposite faction. You can move them to a realm if you have another character on the same side, just not opposing sides.

It’s uncertain how many players will be moving this weekend, especially those already in established guilds or groups of friends of the same server. All of them will need to move as fast as possible and only to servers that seem to still have Free Character Move queues as they are more likely to be safe with lots of free spots. Those realms with no or very small queues may not have many spots left for players must be more careful to avoid leaving someone behind.

Currently the Free Character Move service is available for both the US and some Europe servers. This is a very recent event with the service coming online early in the day on September 5th for the US and the Europe service coming online shortly after. Players from the US will be pleased to know there is a good number of new realms however this changes a little for Europe due to there being language specific realms also. For English speakers, there are four potential destination servers which Germans speakers have two and French speakers just have one.

There has been no mention of what happens to the Classic WoW gold and items that players have linked to certain characters during the move. Players haven’t been reporting their realm moves very much and there are different reports about the queue times now. It’s assumed you will keep everything attached to that character when you move including any items, mounts and all that precious World of Warcraft gold which could be sold on sites like Eldorado GG as well.
