India which is considered as the most depressed country all around the globe, according to WHO (World Health Organization), counts the highest suicide rate of any country in the world. Every year, over 1 lakh people on an average kill themselves in India, while struggling with depression. Deepika Padukone who has recently visited NDTV headquarters sharing her battle against depression for the first time on television. Where most celebrities who feel self-effacing talking about their personal issues and diffident to reveal their personal matters to media, Bollywood’s leggy lash Deepika Padukone felt totally free and necessary to talk about depression due to her personal miserable experience and one of her friend’s death to make the air clear about the shame and stigma attached to talking about depression.

Deepika not only encouraged the depression victims to get over of it, but also influenced so many people including her fans to learn some necessary artefacts from her own depression experience.

1. Actually it’s possible for celebs to treat their fans to awful honesty

Deepika not only shared her to state of mind and depression on TV about what was one of the lowest phases of her life, she also had no concerns in stating the entire truth and nothing but the only truth. She confessed “Here I have to talk about achieving everything and then I have to fly back and then I would land and then again I had to lock myself up in the bathroom and cry because there are so many people that are just looking at you all the time,” which would be the toughest job any person or any celeb to share with billions of people watching on air.

2. She broke the Bollywood cliché of depression

Unlike, Madhur Bhandarkar –esque Deepika got her life back on track rather going off the trail. It’s her courage and fearless attitude that she sought help and accepted medication for her ailment. Now, Deepika has added one more feather to her cap, being a powerful woman and a person.

3. This can happen to anyone literally

Being celeb is about success and achievement. But Deepika is a human too, to remind you all. If depression could absorb Deepika, then this could happen to anyone and there is nothing to be ashamed of.

4. You can win the battle of depression

India is the nation, where suicidal rates are escalating to an alarming rate, Deepika’s honest and frank confession get us as a welcome reminder that it is possible to fight and overcome depression. Many people who are absorbed badly in depression and committing suicide taking it as the ultimate solution, should and would have watched Deepika’s miserable journey of depression record. However, we owe her big time for reminding us of this fact.

5. It’s too crucial to reach out and seek help

Deepika’s own confession, for an ailment that doesn’t manifest in any physical symptoms, knowing when to reach out and seek help is a real fight but it was the medication and counselling that significantly helped her to get back her smile and zest for life.

6. Her confession broke the stigma attached with depression

Deepika asserted “If I can impact one life in this entire process of speaking up and letting people know that it’s something I have been through and something that I could deal with because I had a fantastic support system,” reflects her clear and honest attempt to break the stigma and shame associated with depression. However, saving at least one life could really be an achievement in the battle of depression.

7. We have got a fresh reason to respect and admire this actress

Deepika, who fearlessly took one of the substantial names in the publication arena by storm for objectifying her and now, she candidly went public with the knowledge and truth that she struggled with depression and won it. Now, I respect Deepee more from now onwards for her brave act towards the national depression fight.

Deepika not only single handedly scattered all stigma around a hush hush subject of depression, but also, she has got a new fearless avatar and personality after fighting and struggling depression herself.
