The Stream Green Initiative

Stream offers the Stream Green Initiative as its way of promoting conservation. The company delivers renewable energy options to its customers, and customers know that the company guarantees that the portion of renewable energy that they use is derived from 100 percent renewable resources, including wind, hydro, solar, or biomass.

Why Is Stream Only Available in Nine States and Washington, D.C.?

Stream can only operate in states that have deregulated energy markets.

What Is the Difference Between a Regulated and Deregulated Energy Market?

A regulated energy market is one in which utility companies own the electricity infrastructure, and they produce and sell electricity to consumers. In a deregulated energy market, the utility company still owns the infrastructure, but other companies can compete with them to sell electricity. In this particular case, Stream Energy competes with utility companies, and consumers have choices for their electricity needs. They can choose a company such as Stream in place of their regular electricity company.

Why Is Clean Renewable Energy Important?

Green energy is clean, and it comes from renewable resources. This includes energy from wind, hydro, solar, or biomass. Electricity from gas and coal releases carbon and other greenhouse gases into the environment, which pollutes the land, air, and water.

Renewable energy comes from natural sources and emits no greenhouse gases. These resources do not harm the environment and are abundantly available. They are more affordable because the cost lies solely in the method used to harvest the energy and distribute it.

Reliance on electricity is responsible for climate change, the production of acid rain which damages crops contamination of soil and waterways, ozone depletion, smog, and reduced visibility due to particles in the atmosphere. The harmful impact of the continued use of fossil fuels in high numbers is increasing at an alarming rate.

Stream Energy offers the beginning of a solution to this problem. By offering consumers the ability to choose green energy in their plans, each person can begin to cut down on his or her carbon footprint. Not only does this have a positive impact on the environment, but it can also make people feel good about doing their part to deter climate change.

Stream Energy is an interesting energy alternative to big utility companies. It is available in states that have deregulated energy laws. The company competes directly with utility companies to sell its services. The addition of green energy in its offerings makes Stream Energy a unique choice. The opportunity to offset fossil fuel energy with green energy from renewable resources is important for this company. Consumers who sign up for the eco+ plan allow Stream to harness 1,000 kwh of renewable energy each month, which reduces their carbon emissions on a monthly basis.
