Shades and Tie Die Face Masks? Who Says No?
Summer is here and while the heat has not curbed the pandemic, it sure has pushed down fashion down a huge pile of priorities.
How do you stay safe while not looking like a total pariah in a time when a face mask is indispensable? The answer is a Tie Dye Face Mask and, while you are at it, why not put some shades as well. Sure that was a big statement. I thought about the look for a while and it just felt like it was impossible to pull off. It is one of those looks that could either be the look of the season or is going to fade away along with every fashion credibility of the person that suggested it. So, biting the bullet, I am going to suggest something that might look just a little bit odd.
The Tie Dye Face Mask Controversy
The Tie Dye Face Mask is the fashion trend that no one really asked for. I think everyone agrees on that regard but why are face masks with shades so controversial? Well, the answer is simple. First of all, no one really thought of the face mask as a fashion accessory. The intent is to save lives and be respectful to other persons besides yourself. But, on the other hand, you want to at least look cool. So, in this regard, where does the shade and face mask look fall in?
The wearing of face masks is probably one thing that everybody should start agreeing to. We need to wear masks and I cannot believe that there is even a need to keep reiterating this. Then comes the problem of how we are going to start navigating this look. Unlike most fashion trends, this one has been imposed on us and we are not going to just suddenly abandon that bell bottom jeans soon.
We can talk about optics all we want but one thing is for certain, this shift is going to be radical and has a lot of consequences. But it is not like there is nothing comparable to it. Digging deep through the treasure troves of history reveals a certain group of people that had made the face covering a thing of beauty. Belly dancing in the mediterranean reminds you of a certain look that could influence the next generation face masks that not only save lives but actually makes the wearer look better. Then you ask, where does the shades come into play? Well, before we get to something a bit more complicated like the tie dye face mask. We really have to convince ourselves first that the tie dye face mask actually has aesthetic value. And as mentioned, looking through the mystic east might just give us a clue.
Face masks are there and we cannot just ignore them. From the point of view of fashion, the first thing you have to do is to accept that you have a face mask that you have to work with. I mean, you cannot just pretend that there is nothing on your face. Sooner or later, it is going to stick out like a sore thumb. One mistake that I often find people do is to brute force their way into the look that they like and just put the cover on it. The result is a sad combination of lipstick stained surgical face masks in the garbage bin and the urge to not shed a tear.
Bottomline is we have to talk about this like the fashion emergency that it is. No one can leave this room until we get to the bottom of this and I am open to all suggestions, shades and tie die face masks included.
The Tie Dye Face Mask Problem
Wearing a face mask is one thing when battling the cold winds of autumn and winter. It might actually even make you feel kind of nice like a warm scarf covering your face. And it can even prevent you from having those ugly chapped lips from a cold streak. But summer is coming and you know what that means – dripping sweat. You think it is bad enough to have a lipstick stain on your cheek after the face mask smeared it on your face. Wait until you see a wet outline on your face where your lips are supposed to be. We need breathable masks and that is non negotiable. And, add to that, how do we wear sunglasses while wearing a mask, and does it make it any better.
Stars and celebrities have taken a hold of the situation and made the risks for us. Any grand event nowadays features someone famous wearing a mask to flaunt off his or her social consciousness, and well, maybe he or she is just responsible like that. But, what this gives us is a range of samples to find out which one works and which one reeks of trying too hard. You would think that last summer’s trends of short shorts were bad enough. This summer season is going to be a bloodbath in comparison.
Tie Dye Face Mask and Sunglasses
No one wants to look mean but that does not mean that you cannot look fierce. Sure, the two are comparable words but there is a distinct difference. You look mean because you look like you are about to bite someone’s ear off. But if you look fierce then you look like you control your life. This distinction is important because a tie dye face mask and sunglasses can easily go both ways. Covering both the eyes and the mouth means that you have left all communication through facial expression through your brows and whatever smile that slips through from the sides.
Here, the choice of sunglasses becomes extremely crucial. First of all, it has to match the color of your face mask. I am not saying that they should be the same color. But it should be a match. Failing to take care of this means you will have a fashion infraction literally at your face.
