As we all know, Wine the most popular alcohol beverage which is made by the fermentation of grapes. Wines are of two types, the red wine and the white wine.
We all know that too much of alcohol intake can be harmful as one gets badly addicted to it. And the worst consequence of alcohol addiction is the ultimate death of the person. But the recent studies assert that alcohol can be beneficial for our health if consumed in less quantity. However, many of us have heard doctors saying that two glasses of red wine in a day can do wonders for one’s health.
The natural red wine is rich in sugars, proteins, organic acids, phenol compounds, glycerol, amino acids, Vitamins A, B1, B2, PP and mineral salts providing a significant nutritional intake and mineralizing our body.
Hence, the red wine has always been recommended by doctors for its anti-anaemic, restorative, refreshing and energizing properties. But, too much of anything could be really deadly. So, here are some pros and cons of consuming red wine.
Pros
- The red wine has antioxidants, specifically resveratrol which are found in the skin of grapes and their seeds. The antioxidants fight free radicals hence protect the healthy cells against their harmful actions.
- The resveratrol has a crucial role in blood thinning, as it works quickly preventing the platelets stick together means preventing blood to clot. Hence this process prevents heart attack.
- Red wine helps in reducing bad effects of smoking.
- It prevents the initiation and increasing effect of atherosclerosis that is the hardening of arteries.
- Drinking two glasses of wine with meal can reduce post meal blood pressure in hypertensive persons.
- Red wine also minimises the risk of Kidney stone
- Red wine also increases good cholesterol HDL and reduces bad cholesterol LDL.
- Natural and unprocessed red wine also helps in digestion and prevents bloating. It also helps in eliminating waste materials from intestine and reduces gastric or duodenal ulcer.
- The resveratrol present in red wine protect skin from free radicals and delay the appearance of wrinkles, making skin look younger and firm.
- Red wine protects against Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Cons
- The tartaric acid present in red wine corrodes teeth enamel and he tannins causes staining of teeth.
- Red wine also causes headache due to the presence of tannin in it. The tannin causes migraine, however the effect varies from person to person.
- Red wine is not healthy probably. It contains calories. Calorie for women is something like a big concern. One glass of wine has got 80 calories.
- Red wine also causes cirrhosis which is destruction of lever or liver failure.
- Red wine reduces bone density mostly in women, which is called osteoporosis.
- It also increases the risk of stomach ulcers, acute and chronic pancreatics.
- Excess intake of wine can increase the level of triglyceride in blood.
- Obesity is another worse effect of red wine. Forming fats in body and increasing body weight is the common disadvantage of alcohol intake.
- Intake of red wine has increased 21% chances of breast cancer in women who have had consumed 2 glasses of wine each day.
- Histamine is also another side effect of red wine, inducing flushes, sneezing, headache, shortness of breath, itchy skin and diarrhoea.
