How to Pick the Best Home Workout Equipment for You
This post was last updated on June 7th, 2021
As easy as it seems, purchasing home fitness equipment that you wont regret later takes a good deal of consideration and thought. Here are the factors that really matter when making a purchase:
-
Determine Your Goal
The entire process of selecting which type of exercise equipment is right for you and how much do you need to spend for it rests on what goals you wish to achieve along with your current fitness level. So before determining which treadmill, elliptical trainer or other piece of fitness equipment is right for you, ask yourself, What do I want to accomplish? Do you want to do resistance training? Do you wish to improve your cardiovascular health? Are you looking for an energy boost? Such questions, when answered right away should help lead you in the right direction, whether or not you want to do cardio or resistance training, or both. If you decide to do both, you would need to have resistance bands ankle straps and other core training equipment.
-
Set a Spending Limit
The second thing you need to decide is how much you are willing to spend on a whatever piece of fitness equipment you have determined is right for you. Different types of workout equipment have varying costs. The total price of a nice treadmill runs from $1000 to $3500. There are some ultra low priced models around $600 by these have lots of limitations. Elliptical trainers prices vary anywhere from $200 to $5000. Stationary bikes range anywhere between $150 and $1500 at the high end. The old adage, you get what you pay for definitely still holds true here so make sure that you balance affordability, features and usability.
Note: Just because you can qualify for financing on a $1000 elliptical trainer or a $3000 treadmill does not mean that you can afford it. You dont want excess debt as a unfortunate reason to overeat and wipe out your workout gains. Determine exactly how much you can realistically afford to spend on the exercise equipment.
-
Consider the Total Cost
Installation, shipping, transportation and other additional charges can really add up. Before purchasing a machine, make sure that you take note of all these charges so that you wont blow your budget at the last minute.
-
Decide on the Space
Besides your goals and budget, the two other equally important things to remember when buying exercise equipment are to remember to test the equipment and measure the size of the equipment and the area that you are placing the equipment in. While the former is somewhat automatic, the latter is often overlooked, because when you are in the store, it is difficult to determine if the equipment will actually fit into your available location. Consider the space needed for the equipment.
If you have an entire room available to convert to a home gym, it makes sense to buy a separate piece of full body cardio machine and a separate machine for complete body resistance training. f you only have a small corner of your living room available to convert to a gym, then you can decide which fitness goal is more important to you.
-
Shop Around
Wise shoppers don’t settle on just one store. Visit at least two places to compare prices of identical machines. It also pays to do online ahead of time so that you are armed with the right information about the particular product you are looking at. Study product reviews whenever they are available, doing a Google search for treadmill reviews yields tons of results.
-
Do Not Be Fooled
An unscrupulous salesperson with do anything they can to make a sale. If you see TV ads promising that you can drop 10 pounds, lose several inches off your waist and be a whole new you in only two minutes a day, dont fall for it. Yes, these claims are too good to be true. Remember that bodies dont change radically after only a few workout sessions. Quick-fix products with before and after testimonials may be attractive but there still had to be a lot of effort on the part of the participants to get those results. If they did, everyone who wanted to lose weight or have six-pack abs would already have them by now. How to get rid of man boobs.
