Natural Ways to Increase Testosterone
This post was last updated on September 25th, 2021
As red-blooded, virile, manly men, you’ll know how important testosterone is.
Testosterone is the primary male sexual hormone that is responsible for a whole host of sexual characteristics and physiological processes inside the body.
That’s why for today’s article we’re going to look at natural ways to increase testosterone. Testosterone is produced primarily in the testes, though some is also produced via the adrenal gland.
It is an anabolic androgenic hormone that can help to promote increases in muscle mass, strength, power, metal focus, libido, fertility, mood, and a whole lot more besides.
Some people have naturally high testosterone levels throughout their lives, and these men are generally healthier and in far better shape than men with low levels of testosterone.
We’ll look at how quickly testosterone levels drop in just a moment, but for now let’s just say that it isn’t all doom and gloom. A testosterone test should be done t know the accurate level of testosterone.
If you have low T-levels, there are natural ways to increase testosterone and we’ll soon give you some prime examples.
Why testosterone levels are commonly low in men
Can you remember when you were a young adolescent aged between 16 and 21?
Do you remember how seemingly everything seemed to turn you on and how hormonal and emotional you felt?
After going through puberty your body will have suddenly started produced very high levels of testosterone.
The more testosterone we have in our bodies, the better.
The problem is that test levels peak in our late teens to mid-twenties.
As we approach 30 we find that testosterone production slows down and levels of this hormone actually start to drop after we hit 30.
From 30 onwards our testosterone levels drop slightly with each passing year, and some unfortunately see theirs drop lower than others.
In extreme cases, doctors can prescribe testosterone replacement therapy, though there are plenty of natural ways of increasing testosterone levels as well. For testosterone replacement therapy, you should first consult an expert from Male Excel and get all the details needed.
Natural ways to increase testosterone
Now we’re going to list some simple, natural, and effective ways of increasing testosterone. These include the following:
Get a healthy balance of macros
With fad diets now seemingly everywhere, and people constantly changing their eating habits because some social media “celebrity” trainer told them to, a lot of men are not getting a regular healthy balance of macronutrients.
Macronutrients come in the form of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
Studies have found that to boost testosterone levels and keep them high, we should consume a healthy mixture of fats, carbs, and proteins on a daily basis.
The healthy cholesterols in fats are great for testosterone production levels, while carbs promote healthy T-levels during intense exercise. Protein helps to promote lean muscle mass and can speed up fat loss in the body. Roll these advantages up together and you have the ultimate recipe for healthy testosterone levels in the body.
Lose weight
Okay, first off if you’re one of the few people out there that is at a healthy weight then ignore this next example. If not however and you are classed as overweight and are carrying more fat than you should, you should ideally try to get your weight down as soon as you can. Numerous studies have found that men with high levels of body fat are far more likely to suffer from low testosterone levels.
In fact, in a recent study carried out on young men aged between 14 and 20, the results found that those that were overweight had as much as 50% less test in their bodies than those that were at an optimal weight.
Exact figures do vary from person to person, but it does give you a general idea.
Try a natural testosterone booster
Contrary to what some people would have you believe, there are plenty of natural non-steroid based supplements out there that can help to boost testosterone production within the body.
Tribulus terrestris is perhaps the best-known example, as this is a natural herb that grows in the wild in many parts of the world including Asia, that has been found to stimulate the production of testosterone within the body.
It is therefore a very popular supplement in the bodybuilding world as testosterone promotes the growth and repair of muscle tissue, and it still better than injection equipoise or any kind of steroids that can lead to serious side effects.
Other great examples of natural supplements found to help promote testosterone production are:
- Zinc
- Ginger extract
- Ashwaghanda Root
- Horny Goat Weed (Seriously, that’s what it is known as so don’t laugh)
Lift weights and exercise
Most forms of exercise are beneficial for testosterone production, though studies have found that resistance training with weights is especially useful.
To begin with, exercise promotes weight loss and as you now know, weight loss is highly beneficial for testosterone levels anyways.
Training with weights however, has been found to promote a spike in testosterone levels that causes levels to remain elevated after the workout has ended. Unfortunately test levels do drop back down as time goes by, though there is evidence which does suggest that overtime they may remain slightly higher than they were before.
HIIT is another form of exercise that is great for boosting testosterone. If you can, try not to focus on endurance training, and we’ll look at why up next.
Keep cortisol levels low
Cortisol is a stress hormone, which is produced by the body when the body is put through a process that it perceives to be stressful.
When we’re stressed we secrete cortisol, and when we go through a tough workout we also secrete this hormone, especially during endurance training because it is so physically taxing on the body. Whenever possible, try to relax and stay calm and try to keep your workouts to under an hour. In terms of natural ways to increase testosterone, keeping cortisol levels low is certainly hugely beneficial.
