We often forget how beautiful the United Kingdom truly is. Wherever you turn, there are always stunning landscapes or breath-taking coastlines. So, whilst travel is limited to other parts of the world, why don’t you take a road trip across the UK for your next holiday? Even if you have lived in Britain for your entire life, we still feel certain there are plenty of hidden gems you have yet to uncover. Of course, you can’t just embark on an epic odyssey without doing some planning first. So, let’s discuss all the different steps to going on a road trip across the United Kingdom. Keep reading if this is something you might be interested in doing.
Create a Route
Though the thought of driving without direction might be appealing to someone who is quite spontaneous, this isn’t a very good idea because you could get lost and waste a lot of fuel. That’s why it’s important, first and foremost, to plan where you’re going on your road trip. This also means you won’t miss out on any destinations that you’re desperate to see. When creating your travel route, try to be economic. Don’t go in random squiggles across the map. Instead, move from one destination to another in a logical order. This will save you a lot of time and money.
Travel Vehicles
We don’t recommend going on a long road trip across the UK in your regular car. Not only will you become immensely uncomfortable with the cramped leg space, but this also means you’ll constantly be paying money for accommodation. Instead, we recommend looking at luxury motorhomes and investing in a proper campervan. These vehicles are much more spacious, comfortable and practical. They also double up as accommodation, providing you with cooking and cleaning facilities. What’s more, you can attach a tent extension to most campervans, creating loads more room for sleeping. So, a motorhome will certainly improve the road trip experience for you.
Packing Essentials
Unlike regular holidays – where you pay for accommodation, food and room service – road trips involve you being entirely self-sufficient. This means you must look after yourself and your travel companions. As such, it’s important to pack all the essentials. But what are these exactly? Well, firstly, you will need to bring cooking utensils. This includes things like pots and pans, cutlery and plates. Don’t forget to buy food, either! Next, you will need things for sleeping, like pillows and blankets. Furthermore, pack suitable clothing. The UK is notoriously wet, so we recommend bringing waterproofs with you. Remember your toiletries, too, like shampoo and toothbrushes. Finally (but most importantly) you should take breakdown gear with you. In an ideal world, everything would go smoothly on your road trip. However, with the amount of driving that you’ll be doing, it’s practically inevitable that something will go wrong along the way.
Those are the basics of planning your road trip across the United Kingdom. Now, go out and explore those coastlines and the countryside!
