How to Give Up a Child for Adoption

Child for Adoption

Today, there is an increasing number of mothers giving their children up for adoption. All of them always have a reason to do so which is the reason why I think it’s not a particularly shaming process. Some of them choose to give their children up for adoption because they are struggling financially, because of unplanned pregnancy or because they are not ready to become parents.

Although the history of adoption has not been very welcome in some Asian, European and African countries, there’s increased awareness and we are currently seeing an increasing need to take this as a positive and a loving choice.

If what I have just described above defines your situation, you are not alone, there are many parents both young and old that wants to give up their children for adoption but don’t know how to approach the whole situation.

Prepare for the process

To make sure you have approached the whole process the right way, you should prepare to give up your child for adoption by following the below steps:

  • What is your rights-there are a set of legal and moral rights that you should be versed with before you give up your child for adoption. The responsibility to provide for the child both emotionally and materially and many other responsibilities.
  • What are the available options-Before you give up your child, you have to consider available options depending on the responsibilities and the terms of agreement.
  • Now make the decision-With all the above information put down in a pen, you have to make a concrete decision. The fact is that the decision to give up a child for adoption is entirely yours unless a court is involved.

Plan and arrange the adoption

In the process of arranging for the adoption, It’s always better to research for the adoption agencies. It’s your decision to choose an agency that matches all your expectations. In this case, if you can afford, always have a good lawyer to walk you through the whole process.

You also have to contact prospective agencies which I believe is very easy today because most of the agencies offer phone consultation and also give room for in-person appointments.

What follows now is to cooperate with the agencies for smooth operations. You also have to give information about the other parent and if possible involve him throughout the process.

Give your consent to the adoption

Most agencies will never allow you to give consent of the adoption before the child is safely delivered. In most jurisdictions in the world, there’s a waiting period which especially gives you time to recover from the birth.

You have the rights to consult with an independent attorney especially if you were working with an agency. You will eventually sign the consent forms and everything else will follow.

Finalize the whole process

Once you have signed the consent forms, you will have to closely cooperate with the agency to safely give your child for adoption. As a matter of fact, your participation is complete once you sign the adoption forms. For more information, visit Unwanted pregnancy.
