How to Choose a Body Armor or Security Vest

With the prominence of several risky and potentially dangerous jobs, some persons might need to wear body armors for protection from hurt. 

Whether you are going out into the wild or at the security front due to your profession you would need to choose a good protection vest based on a number of considerations.

It is not an exaggeration to say that in dangerous situations what would determine whether you live or die could be your body vest. However, as great as this protective gear is, you cannot afford to just buy whichever one you see because different vests are suited to offer different ranges of protection. 

Here are some of such considerations starting with the type of vest to choose: 

Types of Body Vests

Depending on what you need protection from, some vests might offer more protection than you need, thereby causing you restrictions, while some might not provide enough security. 

While there are several types of vests out there, the most common ones are Overt and Covert vests.

The overt vest should be worn over your clothes, while the covert vest should be worn under your clothes. 

• Overt Vests 

Overt vests are most commonly used by security operatives such as the police and military. Overt vests are mostly black in color and dense as they are worn over the clothes however, they are also available in other colors depending on what they will be used for. 

In the military, for example, vests are in camouflage colors while workers at war fronts wear blue colored vests. 

• Covert Vests

These vests are often as thin as possible as they shouldn’t be noticeable when they are work under clothes. They also come in different bright colors. They should also blend in with the clothes so they cannot be seen. 

How to Choose the Right Body Armor 

As we have expressed, selecting the right border armor would depend on the job or activity you are going to be carrying out. Your body armor should fit with the level of protection you need. That way, you don’t spend money buying the wrong vest that wouldn’t fit into your security needs.  

• Body Armor for Hunters 

A hunter is likely to face a number of threats when he is in the wild. These dangers can either be posed by stray bullets from other hunters, sharp objects, thorns, or attacks from poachers.

• Vests For Law Enforcement Agents

If you are a police officer that operates in a busy city or works as a patrol officer in a big city you would be more conscious about vests that can protect you more compared to when you work in a small town.

There are more chances to come across an armed attacker in the city so you would need a vest that can protect you from knife attacks, bullets, and other sharp objects. 

• Military Vests

Extra protection is needed by military officials especially those who would go to the war front. There is the necessary need for protection, and then an extra need to protect against bullets. 

For such cases, you would need both overt and covert vests for maximum protection. 

• Vests for Other Security Personnel 

Depending on where you work and what realities surround your job, you might need to face some dangers such as drunken persons and attackers armed with knives and other sharp objects. 

It is especially important for security officials who work at night or in dangerous areas to use protective vests especially stab-proof vests. Bulletproof vests might also be necessary based on the situation.
