Home Remedies For Sleep Breathing Problems
Sleep breathing problem always implies to snoring or sleep apnea which is a very common sleeping disorder in which a person’s breathing is interrupted or even obstructed involuntarily. Usually it lasts for 10 seconds and may occur hundred times a night. Snoring or sleep apnea can be caused due to blocked or narrowed airways of nose, throat and mouth. It also can be caused due to the failure of signal transmission from brain to the breathing muscles. Snoring is a very common sleep disorder and can affect anyone including children. However, according to the recent study it affects males more than females. Overweight people are prone to snoring or sleep apnea as compared to healthy and fit people. However, some people find it really irritating and consult doctors to stop snoring. But there are some easy and effective home remedies for sleep breathing problems, snoring or sleep apnea which could reduce your snoring rate to much extent. Here are they:
Chamomile
One of the best effective herbal treatment for sleep apnea is chamomile. The chemical compounds in helps to relax muscles and nerves inducing sleep. Add 2 tsp of dried chamomile to a cup of hot water. Cover and let it steep for 5 minutes. Strain it, then add a little honey and a pinch of cinnamon powder to drink this tea 1 hour before going to bed daily. You can also prepare a nice effective massage oil adding one part of chamomile oil and two parts of olive oil. Massage your neck with this oil a few times daily before going to bed.
Honey
Honey which as anti-inflammatory properties reduces swelling around the throat which obstruct the airways and hence lubricates the throat which prevents snoring and promotes sleep and relaxation. Add 1 tablespoon of raw honey to a glass of luke warm water and drink it daily before going to bed. Another remedy is to mix 1 teaspoon each of honey and black pepper powder in a glass of luke warm water and sip it slowly before going to bed. Sleep apnea can be cured by losing weight too. To lose weight, you could drink a glass of warm water with 1 tablespoon of honey and ½ lemon juice on an empty stomach daily in the morning.
Garlic
Another effective home remedy for sleep breathing problems like sleep apnea or snoring is garlic which is anti-inflammatory in nature reduces inflammation in your respiratory system making your breathing more relaxing and easier. You can eat 2-3 cloves of in empty stomach followed by a glass of water or you could add garlic to your meal or diet by consulting your doctor.
Lavender
Lavender is a ell known remedy for sleep apnea. It has sedative, soothing and relaxing nature which prevents muscle obstruction in the throat. Add few drops of lavender oil to a tub of hot water and inhale the stem before going for bed. You can also take few drops of lavender oil in a tissue and keep it aside your pillow or pour few drops into the diffuser before going to sleep. You can also add 2 lavender buds to a cup of hot water, cover it and let it soak for 5 minutes and strain it, add 2 tbsp of honey and drink 2-3 times a day.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon which has sedative properties helps you to sleep better and treats breathing problems while sleeping. Add 1 tablespoon of grated ginger and a medium-size cinnamon stick to one cup of hot water. Boil it for a few minutes, strain it and add 2 tbsp of honey. Drink it daily before going to bed. Another remedy, mix 1 to 2 tsp of cinnamon powder in a cup of hot water and drink it once daily. You can also prepare a paste of cinnamon powder mixing with water and apply it on your forehand and chest leaving it for few minutes, then rinse it off with water. This home remedy treats blocked passages.
Peppermint
An excellent herb which reduces airway blockages due to its anti-inflammatory property which reduce inflammation and promotes easy and smooth breathing. Peppermint is amazing to prevent snoring. Add a few drops of peppermint oil to a glass of water and then gargle with it. You can do this daily before going to bed. You can also drink a few cups of peppermint tea daily. To prepare the tea, add 1 tablespoon of crushed peppermint leaves to a cup of hot water. Cover it and soak for 10 minutes. Strain and add some honey to it. Drink it while the tea is still warm.
Almonds
The very simple home remedy for sleep breathing problems is almond. Almonds are high in magnesium and promote sound sleep and muscle relaxation. You can eat a handful of dry roasted or soaked almonds every day or you could eat toast with almond butter 1 hour before going to bed followed by a glass of water.

Warm turmeric milk
Commonly known as haldi wala doodh which is a combination of milk and turmeric which helps to treat sleep apnea. Turmeric which as anti-inflammatory property helps to reduce inflammation in respiratory system to help you breath with any obstruction while you sleep. To prepare this milk add 1 tsp of turmeric powder to a glass of milk, let it boil for few minutes on low flame and remove it from heat and add 1 tbsp of honey to it and drink it daily before going to sleep.
