Five Fun Ways to Survive Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day 2020

We’ve done it. We made it through the holidays. We survived Christmas Dinner with the entire family (there was only that one teeny tiny political disagreement, but I’m sure Nana will forgive you at some point) We bought everyone the perfect eco-friendly gift without completely bankrupting ourselves. We even managed not to go insane when that one restaurant played “All I Want For Christmas Is You” on repeat ALL NIGHT. Congratulations, well done, we’re heroes. But what’s that you see lurking down the tracks? Oh no, it can’t be! But yes, indeed it is February. And what comes with February? Valentine’s Day. No matter if you’re single, married, or reveling in your “it’s complicated” status, Valentine’s Day comes for us all. Don’t worry though, we’ve got you covered.

Here are our tips to make Valentine’s Day virtually painless (unless you’re into that sort of thing). It almost makes you long for Christmas, doesn’t it?

1. Galentine’s Spa Day

Not in a relationship, but not into spending Valentine’s Day alone? Get your Galentine’s Day on! Gather your best gals (or guys) and head out for a spa day. Check your local area for Russian or Turkish bathes and enjoy a communal schvitz. Not into sweating with your friends? Buy some cheap facemasks and spend the night taking selfies that will never see the light of day.

2. Treat Yo Self

Yes, you’ll notice somewhat of a Parks & Recreation theme. Donna and Tom had it right: “Treat Yo Self.” Buy yourself that pair of shoes you’ve been Googling nonstop. Not able to splash any serious cash? Treat yourself to a lovely pastry or coffee (or even better a hot chocolate).

3. Cozy Bubbles

So, you’re in a relationship, but the idea of spending hundreds of dollars on a prix fixe menu with every other couple in your city is making you feel nauseous. All the joy of multiple bottles of champagne, but delivered directly to your door. Get a basket delivered for you and your sweetie, cuddle up and enjoy some bubbly in the privacy of your home. Sign me up!

4. Romantic Bar Crawl

Not the homebody type? Plan a romantic bar crawl for you and your partner. Way more fun than sitting in a restaurant for hours, pick your favorite bars in the city and spend Valentine’s Day imbibing and exploring with your loved one. Cheers babe!

5. Bridget Jones’ Diary on Repeat

My personal favorite: The movie that is perfect for Christmas or Valentine’s Day. Bridget Jones’s Diary. Make a delicious meal (or order pizza, no judgment). Pop on Bridget Jones and let Renée and Colin do the rest. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be motivated to write your own diary and chase a man down the street in your knickers.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all and to all a good night.
