How to Fight Your Daily Obsessions?
This post was last updated on November 19th, 2024
Tired of obsessed thoughts? Want to break the walls that form a prison around your mind? Let me tell you one thing the harder you try, the more powerful your obsession becomes. It’s natural to be involved so much in something specific that you find yourself somewhat preoccupied by those everyday obsessed thoughts, be it some entertainment stuffs like movies, TV shows, online games or social involvements like spending time in bars, discs or hanging around lot with friends or even personal involvement like masturbating too much.
Getting obsessed with some specific activities occupies a large room in your mental attic which feed on your focus, peace, responsibilities and time. Hence, the definition of obsession is an unwanted thought that you would like to get indulged in, but cannot control. No need to be depressed or worry as I have got some ways to clear out your over crowded obsessed thoughts.
1. Be Logical
Don’t talk back to your obsessive thoughts. Better respond to it logically. When you talk back, you empower the voice, not making quiet the voice. You proffer it an opportunity to argue with you and make its case. The more you scrutinize the obsession the more focus you give it and the more extreme it becomes.
2. Believe that it will fade away
You can do anything for a minute. Your thoughts can last long for one or two hour or even one or two days. All intrusive thoughts have a specific time period. All you need to do is endure them, fight them. Avoid doing according to your thoughts. Those intrusive thoughts will be gone and you will have your brain back.
3. Focus on your present
Obsessed thoughts are based on past feeling, or future aspires or even present desires. But you need to focus what you should actually be doing that present moment beside that obsessing drive. Try to avoid your crowded thoughts, converse with people or read something productive.
4. Activate your senses
An effective method to anchor your intrusive thoughts are activating your 5 senses, smelling, viewing, hearing, tasting and feeling. This can transform our being mode to doing mode. Try to be available for any of your senses which will evaporate your intrusive thoughts.
5. Distract yourself
If still your obsessed thoughts control you, then distract yourself. You can start a new hobby or doing something irregular or even read blogs or getting connected on social networks. The thing is don’t live your mind alone to get absorbed by those obsessed thoughts.
6. Replace your obsession
Well try to replace your obsession with another one which is harmless, not emotional or damaging. Focus on the new obsession, find reasons and excuses to spend more time with your new obsession that will drift you away from your ex-obsession.
7. Make a picture of it
Imagine or picturize how weird it is, what you are obsessed for? How wacky it is when actually it’s visualized? This will make you feel bad and will make you realize that you need to get away from it.
8. Go blank
If nothing works, try to evacuate your mind. Get onto a meditating mode, whenever you are attacked by those thoughts. Meditating can help you get rid of your obsessive thoughts.
Obsessive thoughts emerge from stressed mind. So, try to reduce your stress as much as possible. I am not saying these methods will be start working from the very beginning day of implementation. Make it practice, try it for one week, then you can feel the difference.
