CBD Water – How Effective Are These Hemp Drinks?

This post was last updated on February 12th, 2024

When it comes to any new supplement there are a lot of questions, with CBD there might be a few more – what is it? How does it work? Can I get high from it? How effective are these hemp drinks? Well, let’s talk about what CBD is, how it works, and what benefits you might get from it.

CBD is currently the big buzz in the health, wellness and beauty industry and with good reason. Coffee shops sell CBD lattes and brownies, there are CBD lip balms and lotions, and of course capsules, teas and CBD water. And, even though it is widespread – there is still a little confusion about CBD and how you can take it.

What is CBD?

CBD is the short term used for cannabidiol. It is one of 120 chemical compounds that you can get from the cannabis plant. It is a totally naturally occurring substance and is used in edibles, teas and other topical applications to promote a feeling of calm and relaxation. It is important to note that THC and CBD are different – THC is the chemical compound that will give you that high feeling, CBD is it’s the relaxed friend who provides no high.

No High?

There are two main things you are going to hear that come from the cannabis plant – CBD and THC. CBD is the nonpsychoactive portion of the plant, and this means you won’t feel high in any way. THC however, will get you to feel wavy pretty quickly.

As with everything, there are different reactions to be had. Everyone processes and experiences natural products differents. Like St John’s Wort or evening primrose oil – some people feel an impact and some don’t. But since you will be consuming a relatively low dose in a beverage, you aren’t likely to feel anything other than calm and relaxed after about an hour.

Whats Hemp?

Cannabis, marijuana and hemp are used almost interchangeably – but they aren’t the same thing. Cannabis sativa has two main species, and those are marijuana and hemp. Both do have levels of CBD, but the hemp has a much higher percentage of CBD and a minuscule 0.3% of THC.

And hemp oil is different again. Hemp oil only comes from the seeds of the plant and have zero CBD or THC. It is still great for you, but won’t have the same effect as CBD. However, it is great for moisturizing.

Health Benefits?

There is only one medication that is currently FDA approved in the CBD arena. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t many benefits to be found when using CBD. There is a lot of research that has positive outcomes in the use of CBD.

There is a well-versed list of things that CBD helps with, and one of those is anxiety. CBD works with your bodies natural receptors and tells it to calm down – and makes you feel safe. How? Because it lowers cortisol levels – which sends you into the fight or flight response zone.

Best Way To Take It?

This will really depend on your goals. You have to consider the reason you are taking CBD. If it is to improve your sleep and anxiety, then you might like tea and other beverages during the day. If you are looking for pain medication, then you will need a much higher dose. For inflammation, you can use a combination of capsules and topical application. If you are looking for faster relief from pain, then vaping is the way to go. The delivery will be around ten minutes. However, it will wear off in around 2 hours.

Tinctures that you drop under the tongue will last up to 5 hours depending on the dose. This goes for other edibles too. Tinctures typically take 30 minutes to an hour to work into your body. Great if you are using it during the day.

What to Look For

You should always check the label for any CBD product that you buy. Even the coolest label can be missing vital information. You ideally want something that mentions third-party testing and mentions that it is a health supplement. When you buy third-party tests products, you will be guaranteeing what it says on the bottle is the amount of CBD that you actually get. Most reputable brands will have the proper dosage on the bottle too. So if you are new to CBD, you have a starting point, and if you have been using it for a while, you will know where you stand when using a new product.
