This post was last updated on May 28th, 2024
Shaving, use of chemical products, and waxing to remove the underarm hair can darken these areas. Usually, hair in these areas is coarse and has to be removed forcefully during waxing. The hair removal creams also contain certain chemicals that over some time darken the underarm areas. But that should not stop you from wearing those sleeveless and off-shoulder dresses.
Home remedies to lighten dark underarms
You can easily lighten dark underarms by using some home remedies that give the desired results when followed consistently.
1. Potato juice
Potato juice is a time-tested remedy for bleaching pigmented areas of the skin. It is equally effective in lightening the underarms. To prepare potato juice grate a raw potato and squeeze it to extract its juice. Apply this juice immediately to your underarm area. After 10 minutes wash it off with cool water.
2. Pack of rose water, milk, and orange peel
Take an equal amount of milk and rosewater and add powdered orange peel to this mixture. The quantity of the orange peel powder should be enough to form a consistency so that you can apply the pack properly to the underarm areas. It should not be runny or too thick.
Apply this paste and leave it for around 15 minutes. Rinse it off using cold water. Do this ritual at least 2 to 3 times a week to get results.
3. Turmeric, milk, and honey
Turmeric powder is a natural bleaching agent that is easily available in all households. Mix organic turmeric powder, honey, and milk in equal amounts and apply this pack liberally on the underarms. Leave for 15 minutes and wash it off with warm water. Since turmeric tends to become hard after drying, it is better to use warm water for rinsing.
Repeat this process at least two times a week.
4. Turmeric and lemon
Lemon juice is a very popular remedy for bleaching pigmented skin. You can rub fresh lemon slices on the underarm areas for some time. Wash it off after 10 minutes. Since lemon juice tends to make your skin dry apply moisturizer after you have cleaned your underarms.
You can also team up lemon and turmeric powder. Both are natural bleaching agents and hence work wonders when used together. Add enough organic turmeric powder to 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to form a paste. Apply this mixture to the underarm areas and wash it off after 30 minutes.
It is one of the most effective and easiest home remedies to lighten dark underarms.
5. Coconut oil massage
Coconut oil has immense benefits. It is used in cosmetics, creams, and lotions to keep the skin moisturized. It also has anti-fungal properties and can be pretty useful in treating common fungal issues. Rubbing coconut oil regularly onto underarms can be a good way to lighten dark underarms.
Every day 10 to 15 minutes before bathing, rub coconut oil onto the underarms and wash it off with warm water. Make it a part of your daily routine and soon you will see the expected results.
6. Tea tree oil spray
Tea tree oil is used in aromatherapy and to heal skin issues. It is one of the best remedies to lighten dark underarms. Take a small spray bottle and pour in it a mixture of 5 drops of tea tree oil and 8 ounces of water. Spray the mixture every day on your underarms and after a few minutes follow with a shower or bath.
Thus, there are so many home remedies that can help you to lighten dark underarms. However, to get the desired results you must try at least one of the above remedies regularly. Also, these remedies are only effective if the darkness in the underarms is due to the use of topical creams, and deodorants.
In the case the darkness is caused due to medical issues, it is better to consult a health expert.
