Global warming is now a serious natural climatic change and a hazard caused due to we people. Heat in summer is gonna increase every year. We are in a serious trouble in knocking down heat and saving energy. On a serious note saving energy is way too essential. If you think you need to get an Air Conditioner for your home to beat heat every summer, I think you should think again as summer in India is a matter of mere 5 months. And most importantly your grandparents and the inhabitants of Egypt and deserts were the humans who hammered summer heat in all natural ways. 1. Keep yourself hydrated
Before getting to the tips and tricks of making your surrounding cooler, drink gallons of water, tender coconut water and fresh fruit juices to keep your system hydrated and refreshed. Water intake in summer balances body temperature keeping you all cool in sweltering heat.

2. Paint your roof white
As we all know white colour reflects sun rays and absorbs minimal heat. Hence paint your roof with special formulated reflective paint or simply white shade. The reflective effect of white paint will keep your room much cooler.
3. Hang a wet sheet or a cloth
Hanging wet clothes or wet sheets in your room specifically in front of a window or door gives your room a real cooling effect. The swift breeze that blows in to the room will gradually lower the room’s temperature.
4. Using heat resistant window screens
This is simply about blocking sun’s heat by hanging bamboo sheets and tight woven sheets outside the window for 50 to 80 per cent. These heavy sheets block maximum heat to get into your room.
5. Unplug your electronics when not in use
Electronic appliances and gadgets emit heat even after turning them off. So it’s better to disconnect all your electronics when not in use to reduce heat in your home and doing this you also save electricity.
6. DIY air conditioner
Well, it might sound old school but is really effective. All you need is a shallow frying pan or a bowl or a shallow tub full of ice cubes or ice bricks in front of a portable or table fan. The fan’s breeze gets the cold water from the ice cubes’ surface and circulates cooling effect inside your room.
7. Close your heat reflective windows
In summer it’s too unbearable to open the windows as all heat gets into your home. So, better get reflective window film on your windows like car windows and close them during the day time to reflect heat to the outside. It’s more like greenhouse effect.
8. Switch off the lights at day time
Switching on lights at day time generates heat making your room all humid. So, better switch off your lights and if it’s really essential then get CFL bulbs which have cooling effect and consume less electricity as well.
9. Use cotton clothes more
Summers are the days to opt more for cotton fabric. Get dressed in cotton loose outfits which give your body a cooling effect and use cotton fabric bed sheets to get sweat free and less heat effect while sleeping.
10.Freeze your bed sheets
Well this trick doesn’t works for more than two hours but will give you amazing cooling sensation for few hours to get a good sleep. Put your bed sheets in a plastic bag fully covered and keep it in the freezer zone of your refrigerator to make your bed sheet chilled.
11. Turn your fan to run anti-clockwise
It’s science logic here. All we need to do is keeping a portable fan out of the window so that it will push all hot air out of the room when the ceiling fans set to run in anti-clockwise direction to pull hot air up keeping the lower section of your room all cool.

Just think about those days when technology was had a long time to evolve and still humans were fighting with the scorching heat to survive. This Egyptian method is about dampening bed sheets, towel to use on your bed which gives you real cooling sensation while sleeping. It’s better to use a dampened sheet over a dry bamboo mat to avoid soaking the mattress.
13. Take shower three times a day
Cold shower in summer days is everyone’s favourite part. Showering three times a day, after waking up in the morning, afternoon bath and showering before getting a good night sleep could help you beat heat nicely.

14. Sleep alone and hog the bed
It is better to sleep alone in your bed rather getting cozy with your partner or sleeping with your siblings. Sleep in spread eagle position in which your arms and legs never touch each other. This allows maximum air to circulate around your body reducing the body heat.
15. Use straw or bamboo mats
It’s much cooler to sleep on bamboo mats which gives cooling effect rather sleeping on mattress which generate excess heat in summer. You could simply spread the mats on floor or could spread it on your bed over the dampened bed sheet to give you extra cooling sensation.
